Child Registration

Cypriot Citizenship for a Minor Child of a Cypriot Citizen (Form M126)

Main Requirements

1. Child’s Age The application may only be submitted for a child who is under 18 years of age at the time of application. If the child has already turned 18, they can no longer obtain Cypriot citizenship through registration based on a parent’s citizenship. In this case, they must apply independently under one of the available routes: Cyprus citizenship based on marriage or civil partnership with a Cypriot citizen — Form M125; Cyprus citizenship through naturalisation based on years of residence — Form M127; Cyprus citizenship through Fast Track Naturalisation based on years of residence — Form M127, Fast Track. 2. Parent’s Citizenship This procedure applies where one of the child’s parents acquired citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus after the child was born. 3. Supporting Documents The application must be accompanied by documents confirming the child’s eligibility for citizenship, including the parents’ marriage certificate, identity documents, the child’s birth certificate, and any other documents required under the applicable checklist.

Required Documents for Changing Status

  1. Original and copy of the child’s passport and current residence permit. The residence permit will normally be retained when the application is submitted. You may also include a copy of the ARC certificate.
  2. Copy of the Cypriot passport and/or Cypriot identity card of the parent(s). Recently, applicants have also been asked to provide the parents’ previous residence permits, even if they are still valid, in cases where the parent has already acquired Cypriot citizenship. If submitted, these permits may be retained and cancelled. If you wish to keep them, you may state that they are no longer available.
  3. Copy of the PIO translation of the parents’ marriage certificate. If you have the original translation, it is advisable to bring it as well.
  4. Copy of the PIO translation of the child’s birth certificate. If you have the original translation, it is advisable to bring it as well.
  5. Consent from the non-Cypriot parent confirming that they do not object to the child residing in Cyprus, where relevant — for example, if the parents are divorced and do not live together. The consent must be certified by the court in the form of an affidavit. If the non-Cypriot parent lives together with the child, this confirmation is not required.
  6. Proof of the parents’ income: copies of employment agreements and Social Insurance statements, which can be requested by email.
  7. Private medical insurance for the child, which may be requested from the employer of the parent under whose insurance the child was previously covered, together with a GESY certificate issued by the child’s paediatrician.
  8. Proof of address: a copy of the title deed or property purchase agreement, or a copy of the rental agreement together with proof of rent payments and utility bills.
  9. Copy of a certificate from the child’s school or kindergarten.

The processing time for the application and issuance of the new residence permit, or pink slip, is approximately 2–3 months.
