Cyprus Citizenship Based on Marriage or Civil Partnership — Form M125

Eligibility to Apply

An application for Cyprus citizenship based on marriage or civil partnership with a Cypriot citizen may be submitted by applicants who: have been married to or in a civil partnership with a Cypriot citizen for at least 3 years before applying and reside in the Republic of Cyprus. In this case, the couple must have lived together in the Republic for at least 6 months in each year, with a total of at least 2 years of cohabitation in Cyprus during the 3 years immediately preceding the application; have been married to or in a civil partnership with a Cypriot citizen for at least 3 years before applying and permanently reside outside Cyprus.

Required Documents

Below is the official list of documents required when applying for Cyprus citizenship based on marriage or civil partnership with a Cypriot citizen. The competent authority may request additional documents depending on the applicant’s individual circumstances.

  1. Original birth certificate of the applicant.
  2. Original police clearance certificate of the applicant — valid for 6 months.
  3. Original marriage certificate.
  4. Copies of the birth certificates, passports or identity cards of the couple’s children — where applicable.
  5. Copy of the applicant’s passport or identity card.
  6. Copy of the passport or identity card of the spouse / civil partner who is a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus.
  7. Statement of Harmonious Cohabitation, signed in the presence of an authorised official.
  8. Certificate of cohabitation, issued by the relevant local authority or Mukhtar. Not required for applicants who permanently reside outside Cyprus.
  9. Copy of the receipt confirming payment of the €300 government fee
